Her parents are an Hungarian father and the Russian mom who divorced. In Hungary the parents of Bruckner first got together, and they then moved to the U.S. through an Italian refugee camp. There are two sisters and one brother. Bruckner was a professional at age 11. She was a part of commercials, in a few pilots for television, and was a part of the soapy daytime show The Bold and the Beautiful in 1999. The first time she played a lead character was in Blue Car (2002). Her character was a high school student high school who was involved in been involved in an affair David Strathairn, her teacher. Film critic Roger Ebert wrote that Bruckner "negotiates the difficult film with a complete commitment." Bruckner was awarded the Independent Spirit Award nomination for "Best Female Lead" for the role.
